Grand Haven Area Public Schools
Grand Haven Area Public Schools launched a comprehensive initiative designed to foster an inclusive learning environment and promote culturally responsive social studies instruction. First, they identified local needs regarding student belonging and equity. Next, they addressed those needs in a variety of ways including district implementation of professional learning programs like "Mitigating Microaggressions." Grand Haven Area Public Schools 99d project also expanded curricula including more diverse perspectives—such as a new AP African American Studies course and updated 11th-grade English Language Arts units while leveraging external partnerships. Their efforts successfully enhanced teacher capacity and improved student belonging, enabling the district to follow through on their commitment to provide high-quality, inclusive educational experience for all students.
