Whitmore Lake Public Schools
This project aimed to update the district's American history curriculum by addressing gaps in their educational materials in order to be more inclusive of historically marginalized peoples. By teaching a more comprehensive history, Whitmore's 99d project looked to combat generational prejudices and foster critical thinking among students. To support these goals, the grant funded the acquisition of updated textbooks and primary source literature. Example resources included the MDE's Teaching Comprehensive History Webinars, The Narrative of Frederick Douglas, Street Law, teacher professional development, and a place-based learning experience to the Henry Ford Museum. This project enabled ongoing lesson and material development.
